ABOUT WHIRLING WIND TAI CHI CHUAN

Tai Chi is the queen of the martial arts and as such, focuses on the receiving energy of yin. Receiving precedes giving. The whirling wind must receive before it throws out. Dorothy’s house had to be picked up in Kansas before it could be expelled into Oz.

The style of Tai Chi Chuan practiced at the school is a simplified Yang-family form developed by Professor Cheng Man-Ch’ing. Classes also include Push Hands and Sword (Classes). The complete course of study is as follows: First we learn the form to subordinate our arms and legs to the power of the waist. Second, we join with others in Push Hands to learn to interpret energy. Third, we extend ourselves through the Sword, making animate and inanimate object.

The school gets its name from the action of a tornado.  “A tornado is but the massed movement of air …. As a whiff, nothing is more pliable than air …. Mass integration makes the difference.”  (T’ai Chi – The “Supreme Ultimate” Exercise for Health, Sport, and Self-Defense by Cheng Man-ch’ing & Robert W. Smith).
