MT (Steven) Rose, Teacher
MT (Steven) Rose began studying Tai Chi Chuan in 1973 as a way of restoring his humanity after serving in Vietnam in 1968. (Why I Do Tai Chi)
In Los Angeles he started studying the traditional Yang Family Long Form. In 1976, wanting to deepen his understanding, he moved to New York City to study with Teacher Tam Gibbs of the Cheng Man-Ch’ing School. Mr. Rose studied with Mr. Gibbs until his untimely death in 1980.
From 1980 to 1985 he studied with other senior students of Professor Cheng: Benjamin Pang Jeng Lo, Ed Young and Maggie Newman. In 1985 he moved to Sonoma County, California where he continued his studies with Mr. Lo and Martin Inn in San Francisco.
From 1986 to 2017, Mr. Rose taught students of all ages at his studio, Whirling Wind Tai Chi Chuan (previously called Sonoma Mountain School of Tai Chi Chuan).
In 2018, Mr. Rose moved to Argentina and started a new school: T’ai Chi Chuan Centro de lasartes cultures-Cordoba.

In addition to teaching Tai Chi Chuan, Mr. Rose taught Argentine Tango at his school in Santa Rosa, The Tango Society. He was the head trainer at Roses’ Noses, a canine scent detection company specializing in bed bug detection. He also played tuba in the traditional jazz band The Eldorado Syncopators.
